Remove Laptop LCD Screen - Compaq Presario
Today we are going to go over exactly how to remove a laptop lcd screen on a Compaq Presario notebook. We are going to need a phillips screw driver, that is the one with the 4 points not 2. We will also need some type of sharp knife, not for cutting but for getting under and lifting, you will see.
Ok start by lifting up your lcd screen so the laptop is in an “open” position. Now remove the 6 rubber circular coverings, that are placed over the screws so it looks nice. They are very small use the knife to get under them and lift them out. Put them next to the laptop or in a little baggie.
Now use the phillips screw driver, which hopefully is small enough, if not get a smaller one that fits in those little holes. Remove all 6 of the screws and put them in the little baggie with the rubber covers that were covering them, and place them next to your Compaq Presario PC.
Now remove the outer frame that was being held down by these screws. Be careful not to rip or tear or pull to aggressively. Be gentle and go around pulling a little bit at a time until it feels loose and then it should slide off easily. Do not damage the laptop lcd screen and do not put pressure on the screen either, even if you think it does not work and not fixable. We’ll determine if the lcd screen is repairable later on
Now lets label a few things so we know what is what. On the bottom left is the video cable where the LCD screen plugs into the motherboard of the notebook. There are 2 hinges, identify them. There is one inverter cable that plugs into the motherboard this is inbetween the 2 hinges, make sure you can see it. The inverter cable runs right to left on the bottom of the screen.
We need to now free the LCD screen from the back cover, now that the front frame border has been removed. There are 2 screws at the top portion of the screen on either side. These screws get taken out by learning the laptop screen forward until it is closer to the keyboard. Then you will be able to see them and remove the 2 screws.
Now look for the video cable and inverter cable. The are the wires going from the Compaq Presario LCD screen to actual motherboard of the computer. The video cable probably has some tape holding it down and is thicker in the number of wires. Remove this from its connection, do it slowly and carefully. Do the same for the thinner inverter wires, there are 2 of those.
If you have any questions about any of the processes discussed when you remove laptop LCD screen on your Compaq Presario, do not proceed and call your local professional computer repair company.

Thanks for the Presario repair info! My screen was loose and I wasn’t sure how to get the outer frame/bezel off so that I could tighten the screws inside that hold the screen in place. DUH….I thought the 6 white screw covers were only bumper pads to protect when the case is closed. Well, yes they are, but they ALSO cover the screws that hold the bezel on. I thought the bezel was glued or sonic-welded on, so I haven’t bothered to try fixing it till I found your site today. Now my laptop screen is as good as new again and not a “floppy screen”
Thanks!
The repaired unit is a Compaq Presario V4000 (4310NR to be specific).
It’s been a great laptop, but after almost 3 years the battery is starting to sag quite noticably. I’ll replace that and be good for another 3 years probably!
Thanks! My son just cracked the screen on my Compaq Presario C727US Laptop and I needed some simple instructions to get the screen removed so i could replace it. You guys are AWESOME!
