3 Things You Need To Know About Your LCD Laptop Screen

You need to know a few things about your LCD screen on your laptop before you go ahead and buy a new one, or even try to repair the one you have.

1.  Screen Size

The screen size on any LCD laptop screen is measured from corner to corner.  Meaning it is not the length of the screen or the width of the screen but rather it is the measurement from one corner to the opposite corner of the notebook screen.

So if you need to purchase a new screen the sizes are listed based on this measurement so measure yours or look into the specs of the laptop when you bought it.  But remember if you look on Ebay or another site, make sure you get the correct corresponding size.

2.  Backlight Problems

If your laptop lcd screen seems to not be as bright, or maybe it looks like the LCD screen is not on at all.  If the laptop is making noise and full turned on, then this is probably a backlight issue.  Backlight issues are not the wortst, but do require some knowledge about how to Replace A Backlight On An LCD Screen.

You will need a soldering iron and a steady hand.  Oh don’t forget you will need to buy the correct replacement backlight that will work with your brand of laptop.

3. Loose LCD Video Cable

It is always possible that your LCD screen that looks like it won’t turn on, may just have a loose video or power wire.  If the video cable becomes jostled loose or the power wire to the LCD screen becomes loose, the screen will not show anything and look like it is broken.

It is in fact not broken.  What you have to do is check both the connection in the LCD screen and also in the laptop.  There is a slight chance just the wire took damage and that might be the problem also.  But open the laptop and check the connections make sure the wires and cables are firmly secured.

Hello. I have a problem with backlighting on my laptop lcd. In certain angles the screen goes darker so I figure it’s a damaged wire problem. I’ve located the wire going from the laptop to the backlight in the screen. When i move it the problem is fixed and normal lighting is back but goes away when i release the wire again. Do you know where can i find a replacement for the damaged wire? It’s a NEC Versa S5500.
    Thanks.
